The law 1332008 mandate amongst other things extensive budget
cuts for Italian universities. The measures will affect all those with
plans to work in the Italian university system, so it is perhaps not
surprising that the intensity of the debate has been high also inside
the EUI.
Given popular demand for debate on
the topic, we have invited professor Andrea Ichino from the University
of Bologna (and part-time at the EUI) to present some facts and ideas
from his work on education in Italy, and give his opinion on the
current measures. Andrea Ichino has published on the italian university
system in the past and has been active in the public debate in recent

The meeting will be held
this Friday (October 31st) at 18:30 in the Cappella at
Villa Schifanoia. Prof. Ichino will give a short presentation of his
work and opinions. After that, the meeting will be dedicated to
discussion with the participants. You are all welcome to join and
