Oggi alle 15 in Piazza Sant’Ambrogio docenti, ricercatrici/tori e dottorande/i dell’Istituto universitario europeo, dell’Istituto italiano di scienze umane e dell’universita’ di Firenze terranno sei lezioni su liberta’, democrazia, movimenti, societa’ civile e nucleare in Italia. Lo scopo dell’evento – "PiazzAccAdemia" – e’ quello di condividere con la gente i saperi prodotti dalla ricerca e allo stesso tempo sensibilizzare l’opinione pubblica sui danni la legge 133 e l’ex decreto legge (ora legge) 137 produrranno a scuola e universita’ senza correggerne – in particolare rispetto all’universita’ – le disfunzioni. Vi aspettiamo!

Today at 3 pm in Sant’Ambrogio Square teachers, researchers and doctoral students from the European University Institute, the Italian Institute of Human Sciences and the University of Florence will hold six lectures on freedom, democracy, movements, civil society and nuclear energy policy in Italy. The aim of the event – "PiazzAccaAdemia – is to share with people the knowledge produced by research and at the same time inform the public opinion on the damages that Law 133 and the ex Law Decree (now law) 137 will have on schools and universities, while leaving untouched – especially with respect to universities – the many dysfunctions that charactetise them. Everybody is welcome!

Friday at the market

We were five "irreducible" researchers – homage to Goscinny & Uderzo, and to our French friends that were with us – last Friday. We met at 10 am in front of Sant’Ambrogio church, all-armed with our t-shirts "cervello in fuga" and our leaflets. We started going around the market, throughout an ordinary crowd: housewives, ladies, carers. Our task was not so easy: everybody was in a hurry, the weather was odd, and probably the neighbourhood in general is not so sympathetic (I hope that this word exists) to our protest. But finally we can say that we have done our best, we talked with the people and we managed spreading our infos and our invitation for tomorrow’s protest. I think that, even if we are little bands our actions in the markets can be useful and nice; so I hope that someone will organize and attend next "piazzata".

Assembly of “IUE in movimento”: Monday 3 November, hr. 1930

The 4th assembly of "IUE in movimento" will take place Monday 3 November, hr. 19.30 in Seminar room 3  (in Badia cloister).

We’ll discuss and evaluate the initiatives that we have carried out during this week and we’ll plan the new ones we are going to undertake, in particular "Piazzaccademia" on Wednesday 5 (lectures of EUI professors in Piazza S. Ambrogio) and our participation to the university demonstrations in Florence (7 November) and Roma (14 November).

Finally, we’ll discuss the overall situation of the student protests against "leggi Gelmini".

Languages for discussion: English (as default) + Italian (only if everyone can understand it)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR NON-EUI PARTICIPANTS

Badia Fiesolana, Via dei Roccettini 9, San Domenico di Fiesole (FI). If you come by ATAF, take bus n.7 till San Domenico-Università Europea, then walk straight on for 100 mts circa, then turn left. The main door might be closed, so it’s very useful if you can confirm your presence as soon as possible with an e-mail to euinmovimento@inventati.org, so that we can let you enter.

"Un volantinaggio al mercato fiorentino di Sant’Ambrogio per raggiungere quante più persone possibili e informarle sui tagli all’università e alla ricerca previsti dal Governo. Questa l’iniziativa organizzata questa mattina da una decina di dottorandi dell’Istituto universitario europeo (Iue) di Fiesole (Firenze).
I dottorandi, sia italiani che stranieri, vestono una maglietta con scritto ‘Cervello in fuga’ in segno di protesta.

DOMANI MATTINA VENERDI 31 ore 11 MERCATO DI SANT'AMBROGIO
Replicheremo l'iniziativa del 25 ottobre a Le Cure, che ha avuto un
notevole successo in termini di partecipazione e entusiasmo da parte dei
cittadini.Ben identificabili da una maglietta "Cervello in fuga", e distribuiremo volantini ma soprattutto parleremo con i cittadini!

La logica dell'iniziativa è incontrare le persone, e discutere con loro
degli indiscriminati tagli all'educazione operati dal trio
Gelmini/Tremonti/Brunetta. L'alleata più forte del governo in questo
momento è l'ignorazna e abbiamo deciso di combatterla, dal basso.
Diffonderemo informazioni e cifre sui tagli all'educazione pubblica ma
soprattutto discuteremo con gli abitanti del centro la situazione della
scuola e dell'università italiana.

EUI tomorrow: Prof. A. Ichino on Law 133/ EUI domani: Prof. A. Ichino discute la Legge 133/2008

The law 1332008 mandate amongst other things extensive budget
cuts for Italian universities. The measures will affect all those with
plans to work in the Italian university system, so it is perhaps not
surprising that the intensity of the debate has been high also inside
the EUI.  

 
Given popular demand for debate on
the topic, we have invited professor Andrea Ichino from the University
of Bologna (and part-time at the EUI) to present some facts and ideas
from his work on education in Italy, and give his opinion on the
current measures. Andrea Ichino has published on the italian university
system in the past and has been active in the public debate in recent
weeks. Download here a short sample of his recent writing on the
‘reform-law’.

 
The meeting will be held
this Friday (October 31st) at 18:30 in the Cappella at
Villa Schifanoia. Prof. Ichino will give a short presentation of his
work and opinions. After that, the meeting will be dedicated to
discussion with the participants. You are all welcome to join and
discuss. The language will be English.

All’Istituto universitario europeo di Fiesole i dottorandi italiani e stranieri sono solidali con la protesta degli studenti italiani. E cercano di coordinarsi con i colleghi per partecipare alla mobilitazione contro i tagli decisi dal governo.

“Piazzaccademia”: lezioni dei professori dell’IUE/public lectures bu EUI professors

Annunciamo le lezioni in piazza dell’IUE! Mercoledì 5 novembre alle 14.30 in Piazza Sant’Ambrogio tre professori dell’Istituto universitario europeo terranno delle lezioni pubbliche su temi relativi ai movimenti sociali e al concetto di libertà. La cittandanza è invitata ad assistere e partecipare.

We announce the EUI public lectures! Wednesday, November 5th at 2.30 pm in Sant’Ambrogio Square three professors from the European University Institute will held public lectures on topics related to social movements and the concept of freedom. All citizens are welcome and invited to participate.
